Known as the “Furniture Capital of New England,” Gardner was once home to many chair and furniture manufacturing companies. Now, with a population of over 20,000 people, Gardner has a much more diverse economy. The town is home to Heywood Hospital and Mount Wachusett Community College, as well as many other businesses. It is also located on Route 2, and just a short drive from both Worcester (30 miles) and Boston (60 miles). Public schools serving the community include: Waterford Street School, Elm Street School, Gardner Middle School, Gardner Academy, and Gardner High School.
